This website highlights some of the many travel and sightseeing opportunities available to those coming to Michigan. The GWTA Michigan members are proud to call Michigan home. We hope that GWTA members and their friends from across the United States and Canada come and participate in this years national gathering.
From the southern border of Michigan’s lower peninsula to the western border of the Michigan’s upper peninsula, a distance spanning in excess of 600 miles, Michigan offers many riding and sightseeing opportunities. Great industrial cities like Detroit and Flint have housed the domestic automobile manufacturing business for years. Lansing as the capitol city has played a role in automobile manufacturing, the center of state government and participated in higher education with its relationship to Michigan State University. Battle Creek home to Kellogg’s and Post is known as the Cereal City which also hosted Gold Rush IX in 1996. Grand Rapids is a cultural city known for furniture manufacturing. Traverse City to the north is our Cherry Capitol and is a center for tourism on the shore of Lake Michigan. Smaller cities, urban and rural areas fill in the gaps between these metropolitan areas. Except for our southern and western borders, both peninsulas of our state are surrounded by the Great Lakes which provide a source of recreation and commerce. Michigan’s terrain varies across the state with rolling farm land dotted by forests, lakes and streams being prevalent in the southern part of the state. Moving north agriculture disappears into open meadows and larger forests. The upper peninsula thrives on tourism, timber, mining and to some extent agriculture. Recreational opportunities are available across our entire state.
Michigan offers many tourism opportunities, sites of historical interest, plenty of campgrounds and hotels and many natural features. Note: If you plan on visiting or camping in Michigan State Parks, see the notes at the bottom of the Camping Information page. This website does not endorse or recommend visiting the sites listed but seeks to point out some of the unique interests available throughout Michigan. You can begin planning your trip on the Michigan Maps page where clicking on one of the numbered regions you can find tourism opportunities in that region. Begin making plans to visit Michigan and participate in Gold Rush XXIV.
If you want additional information not specifically contained in this website, you can visit Pure Michigan, which is Michigan’s Official Travel and Tourism website.
I along with the rest of the Michigan members are looking forward to seeing you this summer at Gold Rush. If I can help you with any questions related to Michigan travel, just email me and I will try to find you an answer. So come early, stay longer and enjoy all that Michigan has to offer.
