A note about Michigan State Parks
Michigan State Parks with the exception of a few noted parks, are a semi modern camping facility. They have modern bath houses with flush toilets, running water and showers. Most Michigan State Parks only have 20 and 30 amp electrical service on the site and no water or sewer hookup. There is a dump station available in the campground for emptying R.V. holding tanks. Traditionally, Michigan State Park campgrounds are in old growth forests with sand, dirt or gravel camping pads. Some of the parks have a blacktop parking pad, however that depends upon the park.
Campgrounds in Michigan State Parks tend to fill up quickly through the Campground Reservation System reached through the 800 toll free number or online reservation system. This is especially true for weekends and parks in popular areas such as those along Lake Michigan or Lake Huron.
State Park Entrance Information
Michigan State Parks have an annual entry fee called a Recreation Passport that is required to be on all motor vehicles entering a State Park. There is a resident and a non-resident passport.
Resident Recreation Passport: Purchased for $10 per vehicle annually either at the park or through the Secretary of State when you license plate is purchased for the year.
Non-Resident Recreation Passport: Annual, daily and towed passports are purchased at the park. Annual passports are $29, Daily passports are $8 and Duplicate Towed passports are $6. |
