By clicking on the links in the Michigan map shown below, you will be taken to a new page that highlights some of the attractions in that region.  Further down on this page is a small inset map pinpointing the Gold Rush location in relationship to the Straights area where the Mackinac Bridge connects the Lower and Upper Peninsula across the Straights of Mackinaw.

The map below zooms in slightly on the Straights of Mackinaw.  This area about 30 miles north of the rally site is rich in history and a tourist mecca.  Mackinaw City is full of shops, restaurants and motels.  This is the gateway to the upper peninsula via the Mackinaw Bridge.  It is also the gateway to Mackinaw Island from the south (or St. Ignace from the north) via ferry boats.  On Mackinaw Island you can take a trip back in time as no motor vehicles are allowed on the island.  Transportation is via foot, bicycle (rentals are available on the island) or by carriage.
