Founded in 1987, the Gold Wing Touring Association is an international not-for-profit social organization of motorcycle chapters throughout the United States and Canada. The organization is owned and operated by its members. We have a member elected Board of Directors who appoints an Executive Director. Volunteers are appointed at each of the succeeding levels of the association; Regional, State and Chapter levels to coordinate operation of the association. As the Gold Wing name implies, a majority of our membership ride Honda Gold Wing motorcycles, however membership in our organization is open to all motorcyclists interested in participating in a fun filled atmosphere. We strive to promote safe riding activities while working to host fun filled events for all of our members.
Within Michigan, we currently have six chapters functioning across the lower part of the state. These six chapters have regular monthly meetings and activities such as chapter rides during the riding season. During the non-riding months most chapters also get together informally for dinner, breakfast or potlucks. They also use the down time to plan summer chapter activities.
Annually GWTA of Michigan holds two to three weekend events each year. During June we have a State Rally held at a county fairgrounds with many activities throughout the weekend. There is on-site camping within the fairground and lodging available at a local motel nearby. In late September or early October we have a State Color Tour held at a motel or convention center somewhere in Michigan. This weekend is setup to include rides and a dinner with Friday and Saturday evening activities. Some years we also have a mid to late winter gathering constituting either a day or weekend event to get the statewide membership together for fun and friendship.
Michigan is part of a five state region that also includes Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania and is known as Region F. Region F is one of 8 regions that make up the United States and Canada. Annually Region F hosts 1 or 2 events each year. They include an annual dinner ride to Middlebury, Indiana to gather at the Das Essenhaus Amish restaurant and some years a Regional event during mid or late winter depending upon if any states are hosting an event or not.
Each year the national level of the association hosts a four day rally somewhere in the United States called Gold Rush. It is a family reunion of sorts that moves to a new location each year and includes fun, friendship, seminars and local tours. Many members make the trek to the annual event as a destination and then stay within that state before or after the event to take in other attractions.
